Guided Questions: What is cause and effect? What key vocabulary words help you find cause and effect relationships in a variety of sources? How do cause and effect relationships display themselves in the environment? (this will lead to a discussion of humans effect on the environment)
Lesson Plan: 1. Teacher will begin by ranting and raving a few cause and effect examples to introduce cause and effect. (ex. If you do not study for a test, you will not receive as good of a grade on the test. I did not listen to my mom and dad, and therefore I was assigned a chore as a consequence.) 2. Teacher will direct students to informally analyze the commonalities between the examples to come to a conclusion together. 3. Teacher will guide students through the __Cause and Effect Mini Lesson__ link, while students will fill in their cause and effect graphic organizer.
4. After viewing the lesson, teacher will explain how every action has some type of direct effect (good and bad). Students will create 3 examples of their own, which display themselves in the environment. Students may use resources and materials from previous lessons for guidance. 5. Teacher will review the __Carbon Footprint Resource__ from the previous lesson by having students dip one of their feet in green paint to make a footprint on white paper to active their prior knowledge from the previous day. 6.Teacher will discuss how as humans we need to focus on being a good steward of the environment by reducing our carbon footprint. 7. Teacher will introduce the __Carbon Footprint__ class bulletin board. Students will write or choose an action from their handout, to be of benefit to their environment. ex. cutting apart soda rings helps to save birds in the wild from getting stuck in them.
8. When the student footprints are dry, students will write their cause and effect action on their footprint, to show how they will reduce their own carbon footprint. 9. Teacher will plan and display all of the footprints on a class bulletin board.
